Humane Euthanasia of Livestock

This one day off farm practical course provides anyone working with all classes of dairy cattle knowledge of the legal responsibilities and skills to safely and humanely euthanase sick, injured or unsaleable dairy cattle.

Veterinarian Dr Tom Loughnan will present this one day practical workshop.

Topics covered in the workshop:

• Best practice animal welfare standards for humane euthanasia of cattle.
• Options for humane euthanasia of cattle.
• Management of euthanasia including confirmation of death in cattle.

The workshop includes a practical session on the use and maintenance of the Blitz-Kerner captive bolt. All equipment is provided. Participants will take home booklet, poster and pocket card to assist good practice on farm.
